Layers of Truth: When Life Asks You to Turn the Page

Turning Over Truth: A Personal Reflection

On 24 June 2025, I sat with a simple notebook in front of me, scribbling thoughts that grew deeper with every word. At first, the phrase “PTO—Please Turn Over” seemed ordinary—a small note we often overlook. But as I lingered on those three letters, they became symbolic. They weren’t just telling me to flip the paper—they were daring me to flip my perspective.

In that moment, PTO came alive as a metaphor. Just as a sheet of paper holds meaning on both sides, so do life’s experiences, people, and problems. What we see at first glance is rarely the whole story. If we don’t “turn over” the situation—ask more questions, challenge our assumptions—we risk missing the truth entirely.

Turning over means being curious. It means choosing not to accept surface-level answers. When we explore the other side, confusion starts to fade and clarity begins to emerge. But it’s not always easy. Sometimes, turning over disturbs our comfort. It shakes assumptions and demands humility. Yet, this disruption is powerful—it becomes the seed of transformation.

Example 1: A Heated Argument with a Friend
Not long ago, I found myself in a sharp argument with a close friend. Emotions ran high, and I was convinced I had been wronged. But instead of letting the tension settle into resentment, I paused. I chose to “turn over” the moment—to consider what I hadn’t seen. That pause revealed a side of their story I hadn’t known: personal stress, hidden fears, and vulnerability. That single shift deepened our bond. The situation wasn’t black-and-white—it was a lesson in understanding.

Example 2: Misjudging Someone at School or Work
There was a classmate who always kept to himself. Most assumed he was disengaged or uninterested. But a group project gave me the chance to work with him directly. What I found was someone brimming with ideas, creative energy, and quiet resilience. He just needed a different space to shine. That experience taught me that people, like pages, have layers—and some of the most profound truths lie on the side no one bothers to read.

PTO isn’t just a note at the bottom of a page—it’s a mindset. It invites us to see beyond what’s visible and develop our thinking, creativity, and empathy. It makes us question our thoughts and the world around us. It’s an inner space that allows us to reflect, disrupt old habits, and spark curiosity.

When we answer life’s “PTO,” we’re not just turning over paper—we're turning over our own limitations. We begin to uncover not only truths about others, but also deeper parts of ourselves. That’s where growth begins. That’s where light enters dark corners.

Because every person, every moment, every decision has another side—and truth is always there, quietly waiting to be read.
